Developing champions since 2011
About
The FormulaSPEED Series
2020 marked a full decade of FormulaSPEED competition. Over the past 10 years our alumni have gone on to secure racing scholarships, win countless races, and even compete in the Indy 500! As we open up our second decade of competition, we plan on improving the racing by inviting comparable Mazda powered open wheel cars into the points championship. This is direct alignment with SCCA’s new FX Championship.
Below are the cars eligible for FormulaSPEED points and awards:
FormulaSPEED
The FormulaSPEED was developed in 2009, and then updated in 2016. It is powered by the 2.0 Mazda MZR found in the 2009-2012 MX5.
The FormulaSPEED features a 6 Speed sequential gearbox, and races on spec Goodyear Racing tires. FormulaSPEED Alumni have won the Indy Lights Championship, secured the Team USA Championship, AND won Pike Peak!
Formula Mazda
The FM has been a popular open wheel racer since its introduction in 1984. It is powered by a rotary 13B out of the original RX7.
Paired with a 5 speed, H-pattern transmission, the FM has been the training tool of many professional racers including Joey Hand, Michael McDowell, Guy Cosmo, Scott Speed and many more.
Why COMPETE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP
Race Series Benefits
Mazda Support
Mazda has historically supported the FormulaSPEED championship with year-end contingency cash and many of the champions have been invited to various Mazda Driver Search Shootouts. 2020 details…
Goodyear Support
Competitors racing on FS Goodyear Racing Tires are eligible to win free tires at every event.
Cost Effectiveness
The FS Championship takes place over 3 double-header weekends, and is limited to local west coast tracks. This make it a very affordable way to compete in a complete championship.
